Passenger: Plane That Rolled Off DIA Runway 'Stopped Suddenly'

DENVER (CBS4) - Passengers who were on a plane that veered of a Denver International Airport runway wound up making it to their destination in Nevada overnight after a big delay.

United Flight 296 was taking off at approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday when it ended up in a grassy area.

Passengers say the brakes apparently failed, forcing the pilot to use the reverse thrust.

"The engine got really loud and we realized we were slowing down instead of going faster. Then the plance stopped really suddenly," said passenger Mike Higdon, who is a reporter for the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Crews eventually towed the plane out of the grass. Passengers used stairs to get off the plane and a bus took them to the concourse.

They wound up boarding another plane which left for Reno at approximately 10 p.m.
