Party Near CSU Draws Hundreds, Turns Violent
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) – Police in Fort Collins are investigating after a party with hundreds of people turned violent Saturday night.
A crowd of up to 400 people gathered outside a house party across from the Colorado State University campus near College Avenue and Prospect Road. Police say party-goers were throwing bottles and tearing down street signs.
The crowd got so rowdy that some people destroyed a visitor sign on campus, and the destruction didn't stop there. On Sunday morning shards of glass, party trash and street signs ripped from the ground littered the roads just south of the campus.
Some of the partygoers threw rocks and beer bottles at responding officers and charged at them with signs.
Officials aren't yet confirming that the rioters are students but CSU officials say any misconduct will not be tolerated.
"If you do something that's criminal, and it doesn't even have to be criminal, you can do something that simply is not in line with our code of conduct; it can affect your academic career," CSU spokesman Mike Hooker said. "That's really important for students to know."
Police have yet to identify any of the rioters but say an investigation is underway that will include reviewing officers' body cameras that captured video of the attacks.
