Douglas County House Destroyed In Large, Deadly Fire

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A home in unincorporated Douglas County was destroyed by a fire Friday night. South Metro firefighters responded to the home on Windhaven Drive outside of Parker.

When they arrived, they found the entire backside of the home engulfed by fire.

Fire officials say the home started collapsing after they started spraying it with water. Multiple agencies used resources to attack the fire from the air.

"Because of the large amount of water and resources needed to put out the fire, crews began experiencing low water pressure coming from the hydrants in the area. The place where the home is located made it more difficult for the gravity fed system to provide water to multiple hydrants at the same time," fire officials said on Saturday.

Firefighters found hydrants on other streets to help get water to the fire.

No one was home at the time, but officials say the home was currently being remodeled with three occupants living there.

The house fire sparked a grass fire nearby, but everything was brought under control hours later.

Two dogs died in the fire.

It's not clear what caused the fire.
