Man In Custody After Attacking Park Ranger At Boyd Lake State Park
LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) - A park ranger is recovering after an attack at Boyd Lake State Park in Loveland.
Investigators say the ranger noticed a driver had a possible stolen license plate Friday night. They say Joshua Dean Owings, 30, became belligerent and punched the ranger in the head and face.
The ranger reportedly pointed a gun at Owings after the man pulled out a large metal object.
Ownings fled but authorities caught him after a short chase.
"Owings was taken into custody after a brief struggle and a female passenger in the pickup was detained. The investigation revealed the Dodge pickup had been stolen in the City of Longmont and the license plates on it were stolen in Utah," David Moore with the Larimer County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
Owning also had a warrant for his arrest from Adams County for possession of a controlled substance.
The ranger suffered minor injuries. He was treated at the scene and released.
