Parents Charged In Death Of North Carolina Toddler

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A couple from Fayetteville has been charged in the death of their toddler.

Twenty-year-old Vanessa Ariana Sanchez and her fiance, 21-year-old Andrew Tyler Tomczak, were arrested last month in Colorado, where they'd been living since spring.

Local media outlets report Tomczak was transported Thursday to the Wake County jail. Sanchez is still in jail in Colorado Springs.

Tomczak and Sanchez face charges of first-degree murder and felony child abuse. Authorities say their 18-month-old daughter, Violet Cortez, died in January of a head injury due to multiple blunt force impacts.

Police think Tomczak and Sanchez beat the girl before calling 911 and saying they'd found her unresponsive at their apartment.

It wasn't clear if the couple were represented by attorneys.
