LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4)- Oskar Blues has switched from beer to drinking water. The craft brewery in Northern Colorado is helping out people who can't drink the water in Flint, Mich.

The Longmont craft brewery has donated 50,000 cans of drinking water from their North Carolina brewery. The cans were donated by Colorado's Ball Corporation in conjunction with the CAN'd Aid Foundation.

The lead contamination of Flint's tap water began in 2014 after the city switched from the Detroit water system to the Flint River as a cost-cutting move. The corrosive water lacked adequate treatment and caused lead to leach from old pipes.

An additional 50,000 cans of drinking water will be added to that amount on Jan. 25 and shipped to Flint residents.

This is the latest water donation involving Oskar Blues that include South Carolina flood victims and tornado victims in Texas.

Oskar Blues released this statement about the donation: "Ball Corporation made cans available for our collaborative recovery efforts from South Carolina flooding and northern Texas tornado recovery so when we learned of the need in Flint, MI we were able to make it happen quickly with the CAN'd Aid Foundation. Having strong ties with our friends at Perrin Brewing in Michigan definitely made this effort even more meaningful to everyone at Oskar Blues & CAN'd Aid. There's still a ton of water needed so we'll keep after it."
