Once The Focus Of A CBS4 Investigation, Westwood College No Longer Accepting New Students

DENVER (CBS4) - A college that was the focus of a CBS4 investigation has stopped taking new students.

Westwood College is a for-profit school with 4,000 students. Westwood is no longer accepting new students at its 13 campuses. It blames the student freeze on tough business.

In a statement Westwood says the "college has been through an extended period of declining enrollments due to market shifts and changes in the regulatory environment. Now Westwood College has made the difficult decision to discontinue all new student enrollments."

Westwood College has been in trouble before. Three years ago recruiters, such as one who did not want to be identified, told CBS4 Investigator Rick Sallinger how he was provided incentives including trips and bonuses to sign up students at all costs. It's a practice Westwood has now stopped.

CBS4 also obtained videos about Westwood's student loan program, which Colorado's attorney general at the time investigated. Now Westwood must disclose the total tuition to students.

It paid out a settlement of $4.5 million to students who told CBS4 they were misled by the college.

Westwood College told CBS4 they will help students finish their programs and that they are not closing at this time.

Westwood College says it's proud of its 40,000 graduates since 1953 and promises to continue its services for all current students.
