Witnesses say the suspect first ran into people with a car and then stabbed others.

At least nine people were injured and one was listed in critical condition.

Among the students from Colorado is Mark Reese of Golden who is a senior studying aviation. He was in the student union when text alerts were sent out notifying everyone to take cover.

"It ends with, 'Run, hide, fight.' That was kind of a shock to most students, so I stayed in there and turned off the lights and they immediately came over … the P.A. system for the union and the whole campus telling everyone to get down, get secured … 'If you're in an office, stay in the office … if you need somewhere to go, get in the basement of any building,'" Reese told CBS4 by phone.

The students were later given an all-clear and notified that all classes had been canceled for the day.

Investigators are looking into whether it was a terrorist attack.
