Ohio Fugitive Takes Own Life After Colorado Capture

BRIGHTON, Colo. (AP) - A man wanted for almost 15 years on suspicion of raping a child in Ohio is dead after taking his own life behind bars in Colorado.

David Lee Skelly, 40, was found unresponsive in his cell in the Adams County jail Sunday. Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Morgen said Tuesday that deputies and paramedics weren't able to revive him and his death has been ruled a suicide.

Skelly was arrested Feb. 27 outside a hotel where he worked in the Denver suburb of Westminster. He was wanted by Toledo police on eight counts of rape and sexual assault.

Tips to law enforcement over the years had placed Skelly at various locations all over the U.S. and Mexico. He was also presumed dead at one point.
