Officers Shoot Man Reportedly High On LSD, Terrorizing Apartment

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - Reports of a man terrorizing an apartment complex with a knife resulted in an officer-involved shooting in Boulder Monday night.

The incident occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. at an apartment complex on 19th Street.

Officers responded to a call of a man acting erratically, and the caller told police that the man was high on LSD and had attacked residents of the apartment building with a knife. The caller also said the suspect was outside the apartment screaming.

When officers arrived they found a victim with lacerations to the face, and upon climbing the stairs, encountered the suspect, who was naked.

One officer fired a Taser, which failed to subdue the suspect, so another fired a shot, striking the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 23-year-old male was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries, which police say appear to be knife-related, including a bite mark on his hand. He was described as being in good condition.

The officer who fired the shot will be placed on paid leave until the Boulder County District Attorney's Office has completed its investigation, which is standard procedure.
