Officer-Involved Shooting At Restaurant After Suspect Grabs Patron

LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) - Loveland police responded to reports of a suspicious incident off East Eisenhower Boulevard around 8 p.m. Monday. A male was seen in the median of the road throwing a bicycle at westbound traffic.

When officers responded, the suspect fled and ran into the kitchen of the Pizza Ranch restaurant on Mountain Lion Drive. The man was reportedly armed with at least one knife.

Officers attempted to evacuate the restaurant when the suspect grabbed a patron. An officer then shot the suspect. He was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

The person grabbed by the suspect was not injured, nor were any officers.

The officer who fired their weapon and the two who witnessed the shooting were all placed on administrative leave as is standard protocol.

The name of the suspect will be released once family has been notified.
