Suspect Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4)- The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday night. One suspect was killed.

The incident occurred at about 8 p.m. on North College Avenue near Terry Lake, when a woman called and reported that a man with a weapon had been menacing her and several others before he left the scene.

When Ft. Collins police officers arrived, the suspect was seen illegally entering the victim's residence.

Officers say they made contact with the suspect and instructed him to come out. When he did, he advanced on them while showing a weapon.

A taser was used to attempt to subdue the suspect, however the man continued approaching. Officers then discharged their weapons, striking the suspect.

The man was transported to the Medical Center of the Rockies, where he was pronounced deceased.

His name will be released once his next of kin has been notified.

No officers were injured. Their identities will also be released at a later date.

Highway 287 was closed from Shields to Highway 1 for several hours during the investigation.
