Northglenn Officer Recovering At Home, Suspect ID Released

NORTHGLENN, Colo. (CBS4)- The Northglenn Police officer who was shot twice during a narcotics raid on Thursday has been released from the hospital. The suspect shot and killed by officers has been identified.

The officer, who has not been identified, was shot in the arm and leg just after 10 a.m. Thursday while executing a narcotics search warrant at a home near East 109th Place and Muriel Drive in Northglenn.

He was released from the hospital Thursday night to recover at home.

The Northglenn SWAT teams arrived to execute a no-knock narcotics warrant at 10909 E. 109th Place, east of Interstate 25 and a few blocks north of 104th Avenue. When officers entered, the suspect immediately fired at them, striking one officer twice. Officers returned fire, killing the suspect.

The suspect has been identified as James Edward Strong. The coroner said that Strong, 32, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the 17th Judicial District multi-agency critical incident investigation team, a group of investigators from multiple agencies within Adams and Broomfield Counties.

According to Northglenn police, there were five adults and three juveniles at the home and taken into custody for questioning. The juveniles include two children younger than 10 years of age and a teenager.

Police have not revealed what kind of drugs were involved in the investigation.
