North Dakota Beats Denver 3-1 For Split

DENVER (AP) - Nick Mattson had a goal and an assist to lead No. 1-ranked North Dakota to a 3-1 win over Denver University Saturday in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.

Mattson wasn't in the lineup for Friday's 4-1 loss, which extend the Pioneers' winning streak against top-ranked teams to three games.

Mattson scored his first goal of the season in the first and assisted on Drake Caggiula's goal in the second. In between, Nick Schmaltz scored and UND (13-4-2, 6-3-1) led 3-0. It is 11-0-1 when leading after two periods.

Zane McIntyre made 32 saves for North Dakota.

Nolan Zajac scored the only goal for the Pioneers (10-5-0, 4-3-0) midway through the third period.

Denver goalie Tanner Jaillet made 23 saves.

The Pioneers pulled Jaillet with more than 3 minutes left for an extra skater and outshot UND 16-3 in the third period.
