Nonprofit That Helps Low-Income Families Hosts Big Event Friday

DENVER (CBS4) - One of the agencies working hardest to help people through the Denver metro area's housing crunch is having a big event on Friday to support its work.

Warren Village helps people like Jasmine White. She is living at Warren Village, which helps low-income families become self-sufficient, with her two children as she tries to get on her feet.

White arrived from Tennessee last year with nowhere to live. Warren Village offered an apartment, and also child care and support.

"At first I was like, I don't want to move to Warren Village, I would rather stay in the shelter of my best friend and her house and her children at least I know I'll be OK. I was afraid to step out because it was unknown territory for me. So once I moved to Warren Village it was a complete eye opener," White said.

White is studying at Community College of Denver to be a dental hygenist.

Warren Village holds its annual All-Star Luncheon fundraiser on Friday. CBS4's Alan Gionet will emcee the event, and it will feature actress Marlee Matlin.
