DENVER (AP) — Teenage Nobel Peace laureate Malala Yousafzai is visiting Denver after spending a day on Capitol Hill.

The 17-year-old is scheduled to speak at the Bellco Theater Wednesday evening to a sold-out crowd as part of a women's lecture series.

When she was 15, Malala was shot in the head by the Taliban in Pakistan when she was returning from school with several other students. The militants targeted her because she advocated education for women. She now lives in Britain with her family.

On Tuesday, she was in Washington urging U.S. lawmakers to support efforts to educate the world's children.

The Malala Fund, the nonprofit organization she founded, is urging leaders to "invest in books, not bullets."
