No Theft Charges For Assistant In Aspen Slaying
ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — A woman once accused in the death of a prominent Aspen resident won't be prosecuted for theft.
Last month, William Styler pleaded guilty to killing Nancy Pfister after telling authorities he acted alone. Murder charges against Styler's wife and Pfister's assistant, Katherine Carpenter, were dropped. However, prosecutors said they were considering theft charges Carpenter for allegedly taking $6,000 and two pieces of jewelry from Pfister's bank safety deposit box after finding her body in a closet in Pfister's home.
On Tuesday, 9th Judicial District Attorney Sherry Caloia announced that her office wouldn't pursue theft charges against Carpenter. Carpenter's attorneys have said that she had permission to access the safety deposit box.
Pfister's killing was the first homicide in the resort town in 12 years, not counting murder-suicides.
