Tornadoes, Large Hail Reported Across Northeast Colorado

DENVER (CBS4) - The first severe weather outbreak of the season hit northeast Colorado on Wednesday bringing several reports of large hail, funnel clouds and even a few tornadoes.

At 3:26 p.m., a tornado was reported on the ground near Platteville, not too far from Highway 85. It dissipated around 3:32 p.m. about 5 miles south of Gilcrest. There were no reports of damage or injuries.

Between 4 and 6 p.m., there were several reports of tornadoes from a cluster of severe storms over northeast Colorado.

Tornadoes were reported 3 miles south of Haxtun in Phillips County, 1 mile west of Otis in Washington County and 2 miles SSW of Platner, also in Washington County.

There were numerous reports of 1 to 2 inch diameter hail in the Fort Collins area, near Sixteen-Mile Corner in Sedgwick County and near Platteville in Weld County.

The hail piled up to 3 inches deep in the small town of Woodrow in Washington County.

Smaller hail was reported in Boulder, Lakewood and 5 miles northeast of downtown Denver.
