The top-ranked Pioneers (3-0) face fourth-ranked North Carolina on the road on Friday afternoon.

Denver's schedule is loaded with top-ranked teams, and that's not by accident, according to Coach Bill Tierney.

Tierney says when he was hired six years ago he said he wasn't afraid to play "anybody anytime anywhere."

"And people are starting to take us up on that," he said.

It's really exciting to have North Carolina on the regular season schedule, obviously playing Duke a couple of weeks ago," Tierney said.

"This is how you attract the better players to come here. They want to make sure they're playing against the best -- that's what we're trying to do."

Friday's game in Chapel Hill starts at 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
