Nightly Closures For Hwy. 36 At Lyons To Repair Flood Damage

LYONS, Colo. (CBS4)- Closures are being put in place for Highway 36 from Lyons to Estes Park to repair damage from last fall's devastating flooding.

The highway will close from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. starting Wednesday night and lasting for 10 nights until May 10.

It's part of the U.S. 36 Emergency Flood Reconstruction project.

No through traffic will be allowed through during the closures and major delays are expected.

The road work will continue with much-needed repairs for excavation and embankment work.

Highway 36 will be open between Lyons and Estes Park during the day but there will be construction delays along the route.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is strongly recommending the use of U.S. Highway 34 between Loveland and Estes Park, and Colorado Highway 7 between Estes Park and Lyons as alternate routes for those who can use them.

Throughout the duration of construction, cyclists will not be permitted on US 36 within the work zones, and several trail access points will be closed for safety reasons. Other flood-impacted highways will remain open for cyclists, who ride at their own risk and are urged to ride using extra caution.
