New Year's Fire In Dubai Near Fireworks, Denver's Fireworks Show To Continue

DENVER (CBS4)- In Dubai, fire broke out in a residential building near Dubai's massive New Year's Eve fireworks display. But New Year's revelers in Denver will continue with the annual fireworks show along the 16th Street Mall.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire, which ran up at least 20 stories of the building near the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest skyscraper.

While the fire was still raging, the Dubai Media officer declared on Twitter: "New Year celebrations in Dubai will continue as scheduled."

There will be two fireworks shows in downtown Denver on New Year's Eve, the first at 9 p.m. and the second at midnight.

Temperatures were in the upper 20s in Denver for the fireworks downtown on the 16th Street Mall on the evening of Dec. 31, 2011, and into the morning of Jan. 1, 2012. There were fireworks shows at 9 p.m. and midnight. (credit: CBS)
