New Traffic Pattern At 6th And Federal Shifts Eastbound Lanes

DENVER (CBS4)- Drivers along 6th Avenue traveled a new route on Monday morning near Federal Boulevard. Crews shifted eastbound lanes to what is now the final alignment for drivers getting onto Interstate 25.

For nearly two years, 6th Avenue has been a busy construction zone realigning lanes for eastbound access to I-25. The exit to either north or southbound I-25 is now a dedicated lane that splits off from traffic miles before the exit actually begins.

The idea behind the redesign is to cut down on congestion during busy commute times by reducing the number of drivers who swerve over to into the exit lanes near Federal Boulevard.

Drivers have been advised to look for the dedicated lanes that lead to the I-25 exit at Perry Street.

This is the last major shift of eastbound U.S. 6 traffic in the project that began nearly two years ago. The realignment and new bridges over 6th Avenue project had a price tag of $98 million.

In the eastbound lanes of 6th Avenue, drivers exiting at Federal Boulevard will take a left hand lane exit. That exit ramp has been open for some time.
