New 'Star Trek' Reboot Coming To CBS

DENVER (CBS4) - CBS Television Studios announced Monday that an entirely new Star Trek television series will be launched in January 2017.

The new take on an old classic will introduce new characters while sticking to the theme of seeking new worlds and civilizations.

The premiere episode will be broadcast on CBS, but subsequent episodes will then be available exclusively on CBS All Access, the network's subscription-based digital streaming service. It is the first original series developed for this platform.

Star Trek will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2016 and is known as one of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time.

CBS All Access offers thousands of episodes of current and past CBS television shows, as well as local CBS station streaming, for $5.99 a month. It already offers every episode of the original Star Trek television series.
