New Owners Of Castle With More Than 100 Years Of History Have Big Plans
REDSTONE, Colo. (CBS4) - When the Redstone Castle sold at auction last week for $2.2 million, April and Steve Carver, who own another historic hotel in Glenwood Springs, became the 11th set of owners.
"Six weeks ago we got a postcard this is for sale," April Carver said. "Now we own it."
Originally built in 1899 for coal and steel magnate John Cleveland Osgood, the English Tudor-style Redstone Castle is an icon. From the furniture to the art on the walls, most everything is original.
"We're not planning to change anything in a major way," April said.
That's exactly what people who love this castle were hoping for -- new owners who want to keep this castle open for others to enjoy.
"The house is just so solid and feels like it could be here another several hundred years," April said.
The Carvers say they are planning to make staying at the castle, in a bed-and-breakfast type experience, an option in the future.
Renovations which will be necessary for that will begin soon.

The castle is open on selected days for tours, and guide Susan McEvoy says she'll continue in the role with the new owners.
"It's really exciting for me and for Redstone because this is such an important piece of the town history," McEvoy told CBS4.
