New Bridge Will Make It Easier To Get Between Denver & Aurora

DENVER (CBS4) - A new bridge is going to make it easier to get between two of Colorado's biggest cities.

The mayors of Denver and Aurora on Thursday celebrated the upcoming opening of the new Peoria Crossing Bridge.

The bridge crosses over Smith Road and 37th Avenue, where there are railroad tracks.

With the bridge, drivers will no longer need to stop and wait when trains pass through. And there will also be a lot more train traffic in 2016 with the completion of RTD's East Rail Line that runs to Denver International Airport.

"That line that really will help to ensure that this entire Denver metropolitan area really becomes more international, more attractive and more interesting to those that want to come in here, who want to build here, who want to move here and who want to live here," Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan said.

Southbound Peoria Street traffic will start traveling over the bridge later this month. Northbound vehicles will move onto the bridge in July.
