Neighbor: Hit & Run Took Place At 'Death Intersection'

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Aurora residents who live near the intersection where a fatal hit-and-run crash happened over the weekend say they are concerned about numerous accidents that have taken place there.

The intersection is at East Montview Boulevard and Dayton Street in northwest Aurora. A hit-and-run crash happened there at 11 p.m. on Sunday night, at a time when people were still going in and out of area bars.

The driver struck the victim when she was walking across Montview in the eastbound lanes. The driver -- who was allegedly drunk and left the scene -- was arrested a short time later approximately 4 miles away from the incident.

The collision was so tramautic police say they have struggled to identify the victim and because of that they haven't been able to notify her family.

Police said they don't know how much the driver might have been drinking because he refused to take a breathalizer test and investigators will have to rely on blood tests.

Neighbors say terrible crashes happen at Montview and Dayton all the time.

Cameron Grizzard told CBS4 it's safer to jaywalk at the intersection than use the crosswalk. And he said the dangerous driver behavior there is giving the area a scary nickname.

"They call the intersection the 'death intersection,'" he said.
