Neighbor Dispute Leads To Standoff With Police All Day Sunday

DENVER (CBS4) - A man is in custody after a standoff situation on Sunday.

Denver police were called to the Park Monaco Condominiums around 8 a.m. Police say an armed man has barricaded himself inside his home and the SWAT team was called.

"Usually pretty quiet; always people walking their dogs, and kids everywhere," resident Ryan Klazura said. "I live with my brother and his wife, and they have a newborn too, so we're like on extra-alert."

The SWAT team arrived on scene and set up a perimeter and negotiators tried to get the man to come out.

"No shots have been fired, and so really we're just trying to talk to him," Technician Eranda Piyasena with the Denver Police Department said.

Piyasena says it all started when two neighbors got into an argument. He says one of them pulled out a weapon and pointed it at the other before going inside.

"Neighbor dispute that unfortunately turned a direction that made it a little more severe," Piyasena said.

"Hopefully it resolves peacefully and everyone comes out okay," Klazura said.

The suspect's name hasn't been released.
