Nearly 40,000 Bees Removed From Highlands Ranch Home

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (CBS4) - Tens of thousands of bees were removed from a Highlands Ranch yard.

Nearly 40,000 bees had created a huge hive this summer. It was kind of hidden in the corner of a home by trees and was just recently discovered by the homeowner.

"It was amazing, it was pretty remarkable. I think I've been in awe almost all day today and sharing the story with coworkers, with friends, with family," homeowner Brenda Garcia said.

"I vacuum out all the bees alive and then I cut out all the brood comb and all the honeycomb that's in there, and I put it into a new hive and take it to rescue locations," beekeeper Greg McMahan said.

McMahan said the bees had produced about 20 pounds of honey.
