Nationwide Warrant Issued For Fugitive Who Fled Before Sentencing

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - A Colorado man convicted of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl is now wanted on a nationwide warrant.

Police say Timothy Chavez, 28, should be considered dangerous. He skipped out on his court date for sentencing in Westminster in August and hasn't been located by police since.

A background check on Chavez shows a history of sexual assault involving children. He was already a registered sex offender when he assaulted the girl in 2015 at a Westminster restaurant where he was an employee. His victim was a 16-year-old coworker.

Court records state he attacked the teen after only working with her twice. He followed her outside during a smoke break and eventually pushed her into an enclosed dumpster area and sexual assaulted her.

A jury found Chavez guilty in June.

If you see Chavez or know his where he might be, you are asked to call Westminster police. Anonymous tips can also be left with Crime Stoppers.
