Mysterious Odor Forces Evacuation Of Florida Pitt Waller School

DENVER (CBS4) - Students at a school in Denver had to be evacuated and then sent home early after a mysterious odor filled part of the building on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at Florida Pitt Waller School located on East 51st Place. Firefighters had to return to the school twice and still don't know what the mysterious odor was.

It began around 1 p.m. when many students were complaining of having sore throats. In total 12 students were checked out and cleared. Nobody was transported to the hospital.

The evacuated students were sent to another by school by bus. Firefighters did air testing but they didn't find anything hazardous inside the school. They left but then came back within minutes when the odor came back near the boiler room.

Parents were concerned and showed up early to pick up their children.

"Mostly some of the kids are afraid and crying. I don't know if it's from the smells or just afraid," one parent said.

The school will be back in session on Thursday.
