Musical 'Hedwig' Playing In Denver Challenges Gender Norms
DENVER (CBS4) - One of the stars of a rock musical that's playing in Denver through Sunday says its popularity owes a lot to an evolution that's ongoing in theater.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is playing at the Buell Theater in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. It is described as being for mature audiences only.
The Tony Award-winning musical is about a fictional rock band that's fronted by a singer who doesn't identify as a man or a woman.

The show has been heralded for the way it questions gender norms.
"The world is different and Broadway has become more challenging," said Euan Morton, one of the stars, during a small acoustic performance and Q&A session at the Denver Center on Wednesday.
"I mean, Avenue Q for the little fun thing it was was pretty challenging for people. It was rude, it was saucy. I did a show called Taboo. It didn't last very long, but that was sort of the beginning of something sneaky, something underground with Broadway.
"And I think Hedwig found her place there because of those theatrical changes and artistic changes and also changes in the understanding of who we are as people."
