When police arrived they said they found a threatening man with a knife. There was a confrontation and the man was shot and killed by officers. A woman's body was found in the man's apartment shortly afterwards. A third person, a man, was present in the apartment and was the one who had called for help. He wasn't hurt.

"This is always one of the most dangerous types of calls officers can go on, especially in this case when they're predisposed with some type of information that it already is at a high level," said Dave Snelling, a spokesman for Arvada police.

Authorities said they believe the man and the woman were in a relationship and that this was a case of domestic violence.
