Mount Evans Highway Closing For Season Oct. 5
CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The Colorado Department of Transportation will close Mount Evans Highway on Oct. 5. The highway, State Highway 5, will be closed for the season from Echo Lake to the top of Mount Evans.
CDOT typically closes the five mile segment from Summit Lake to the top of Mount Evans, 14,264 feet, the day after Labor Day due to an agreement with the U.S. Forest Service.
This year, because of heavy spring snowfall and construction that delayed the opening of the highway, CDOT agreed to keep Mount Evans Highway open an additional 27 days this year.
State Highway 5 is scheduled to reopen for the summer season the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, but that is dependent on weather.
