Mother Accused Of Trying To Poison Children

CARBONDALE, Colo. (CBS4)- A Carbondale mother has been arrested, accused of trying to poison her two children.

The 8-year-old and 11-year-old are out of the hospital and recovering. They are expected to make a full recovery.

Maria Viviana Alvarado-Gomez is facing attempted first-degree murder charges.

Investigators claim Alvarado-Gomez, 32, made smoothies with rat poison. She allegedly drank one of them and also gave them to her daughters.

One of the daughters told police she didn't drink the smoothie because it tasted funny.

According to arrest documents Alvarado-Gomez said she made the rat poison smoothies with the intent to kill herself.
