Monte Vista Police Arrest Man In Wife's Death

MONTE VISTA, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Monte Vista arrested a man in the shooting death of his wife after he allegedly called 911 and said she had shot herself in the head.

Officers rushed to 350 Adams Street in Monte Vista about 4:47 p.m. on Wednesday regarding a 70-year-old woman who had reportedly shot herself in the head with a handgun.

Officers found the victim alive when they arrived with a gunshot wound to the head. She was rushed to the San Luis Valley Medical Center in Alamosa where she died a short time later.

The victim's husband, Murment Chamblin, 67, was arrested and initially charged with manslaughter.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation. An autopsy is underway in Colorado Springs.

Additional charges are possible.
