Mom Who Lost 2 Children Following Colorado Motel Fire Dies

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A mother injured in a Colorado Springs motel fire that killed two of her children has died.

Police say 33-year-old Brandy Jones died Thursday afternoon. Her 2-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son died also died following Saturday's fire in their room at the Ranch Motel.

Her 10-year-old son was also injured but police spokeswoman Lt. Catherine Buckley said Friday that he is stable condition and continues to improve.

Investigators say determining the cause of the fire will take some time. They have found that the motel didn't have working smoke detectors and the room would not have met current fire codes.

The Gazette previously reported that the detectors were more than 10 years old and had no batteries installed. Electrical issues also were found throughout the complex.
