Missing Teen From Westminster Was Distraught Over Boyfriend Leaving Town
WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Westminster are searching for a teenager missing for nearly a week.
Lea Chali Porter's family hasn't heard from 19-year-old since Thursday. Police have searched an apartment in Westminster rented by the man she was last seen with. Police have been able to talk to the man and say he has been cooperative so far.
Investigators have no leads except to start at the man's apartment. It's a mystery confusing everyone involved and police are asking for help.
Family members say Porter was distraught about her boyfriend leaving town. She went to the friend's apartment and then she disappeared. There have been no phone calls, emails or updates on social media.
"She doesn't go dark, and if she does go somewhere for a couple days, like a friend's house, it was always very easy to track her down," said her brother Maxx Porter, who flew in from California to find her.
With no history of disappearing, Westminster police say the case is now a priority.
"We look at those people who she was in contact with on social media. We look through cellphone records and stuff like that," Cheri Spottke with Westminster police said. "We're trying to find out, who were those last people and what were they told? What discussions did they have with them?"
That led investigators to getting a warrant for her friend's apartment. Police have interviewed him multiple times. Police say Porter's car was found in the parking lot, but her personal belongings were gone.
At this point nobody has been named a suspect or person of interest.
"We always treat it as a crime, not knowing. We don't want to make any missteps or miss anything," Spottke said.
Porter's family is frightened. They hope she knows people are trying to find her.
"If she's out there somewhere, please come home to us. We need her, everybody needs her. It doesn't make sense why she's gone. I don't get it," Maxx Porter said.
