Missing Steer Found Miles Away In With Other Cows
ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) - Officials in Jefferson County say a 700 pound steer that went missing over the weekend has been located.
The Brock family told CBS4 "Simba" jumped a fence on their property at 64th Avenue and Eldridge Street in the Arvada area. They spent Monday searching in ditches, fields and roadsides for the animal that competes in livestock competitions.
On Tuesday morning Jefferson County Sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Kelley told CBS4 the steer was found on private property about two miles away on 52nd and Indiana. He was in a pen with some other cows and was somewhat resistant to leave.
The property owner, Marsh Shangle, said he saw Simba jump into his pasture and the steer damaged part of his fence when it happened.
"I saw the steer on the ditch side of the fence and mine were on this side and they were kind of looking at one another," Shangle said. "I just didn't want it in my pasture at the time. It's here now … it's probably the best situation for that steer (that's it's) in with mine so it'll finally settle down."
The Brock family is now working on a plan to get Simba back home. It's been decided the steer will stay with the cows until Saturday.
"By this weekend they can come load it up hopefully without any problems," Shangle said.
