Missing 3-Year-Old Dies After Being Found In Platte River
DENVER (CBS4) – A 3-year-old boy who was pulled out of the South Platte River Saturday afternoon has died.
The boy's parents reported him missing Saturday afternoon. A short time later officers found him in the water.
"He was in the river, nested in some Boulders," Sonny Jackson with Denver police said.
He was unresponsive when an officer pulled him from the water and began CPR.
The boy's family lives in an apartment complex near 9th Avenue and Alcott Street right near the river. Police say they're looking into exactly how the child got out of his home.
"We've got a lot of a questions and a lot things we have to figure out," Jackson said.
Donna Martinez is heartbroken knowing her neighbor's child is gone.
"I think the little guy just got out of the house and they didn't realize it, and before any of us realized he was in danger it was too late," Martinez said.
Martinez believes what happened is nothing more than a tragic accident.
"I don't know exactly really what happened but I know the parents are really good parents and they would never ever allow their little baby to wonder around," she said.
Investigators spent most of the day at the family's home. They are not releasing the boy's name at this time.
