Minturn's Public Restrooms A Finalist In National Bathroom Contest

MINTURN, Colo. (CBS4) - The Town of Minturn's public restrooms have been named a finalist in a nationwide bathroom contest.

Cintas' America's Best Restroom Contest asks the public to vote for the most creative restrooms across the country. Submissions come from all over, including Florida, Ohio, New Hampshire, California and Colorado.

Minturn, CO is rich in mining history, which is reflected in its new public restrooms. The submission states, "The unique digitally fabricated shape of the men's and women's restrooms resemble an adit (horizontal passage way) into a Rocky Mountain mine."

They're considered "functional art," a combination of architecture and creativity.

Other bathrooms in the running include stalls hidden in whiskey barrels at Charleston Distilling in South Carolina; a luxurious cave-like restroom reminiscent of something out of Alice in Wonderland at The Music Hall in New Hampshire; and a bathroom that actually is in a cave, a salt mine to be exact, 650 feet below ground in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Cintas Corporation accepted submissions throughout the summer of restrooms available to the public. Finalists were chosen based on cleanliness, functionality, and appealing design.

Voting is open to the public through October 31 on the Best Restroom website.
