Military Moms-To-Be Honored With Baby Shower
DENVER (CBS4)- Military moms-to-be sometimes struggle with isolation because their husbands are often times overseas and they're stationed in a town where they don't have a big support system.
That's part of the reason that Operation Homefront of the Rocky Mountains organized a baby shower where military moms-to-be can gather to meet other expectant moms, participate in baby shower activities and receive donated gifts.
"Im 14 weeks and he'll be deploying soon," said mom-to-be Wendy Cota.
Cota served side-by-side in Iraq with her husband. Now he's going back overseas and she's home with their 4-year-old and expecting a son.
"We're sad that he's leaving but we know that he'll be okay and he's doing something he loves doing," said Cota.
Skyla Hudson is also expecting with a husband in the services.
"I'm six months along today," said Hudson.
She and her husband were living overseas when she delivered their 4-year-old daughter.
"It was extremely hard having her in England with no family and I had an emergency C-section," said Hudson. "It's always hard. I know I'm coming back but it's always hard."
Charlotte Merriam from Operation Homefront is organizing a big baby shower for military moms this weekend.
"It's going to be a party," said Merriam. "We can act a little silly."
Nothing can make up for a husband and father being absent but for a few hours some very deserving moms will be the center of attention.
"Just to know that somebody appreciates us, to know that we're not alone," said Cota.
Operation Homefront is a national nonprofit that leads volunteers who provide emergency and other financial assistance to the families of service members and wounded warriors.
The military moms-to-be baby shower is Sunday, May 18 from 1-4 p.m. at the Red Lion/Radisson Hotel at 3200 Parker East Trail in Aurora.
