Michael Whyte Arrested In '87 Cold Case Slaying Of Soldier In Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Authorities have made an arrest in the slaying of a soldier in Colorado 32 years ago. Officials said Friday that DNA led them to identify a Thornton man as a suspect in the 1987 strangulation death of 20-year-old Darlene Krashoc, a soldier stationed at Fort Carson outside Colorado Springs.

Fifty-eight-year-old Michael Whyte was arrested Thursday at his home in Thornton on suspicion of first-degree murder. Online jail records didn't indicate whether he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

Krashoc's body was found behind a Colorado Springs restaurant on March 17, 1987.

Officials say they used DNA evidence to create an image of what the suspect might have looked like and made the picture public in 2017. They didn't say if the image led to Whyte's arrest.
