Memorial Service For Slain Deputy To Take Place In Arvada

BAILEY, Colo. (AP/CBS4) — A memorial service for the sheriff's deputy shot and killed while trying to evict a main from his home near Bailey will be held next month in Arvada.

Thirty-five-year-old Cpl. Nate Carrigan will be honored at Faith Bible Chapel during a service starting at 11 a.m. on March 14.

A homeowner who had ranted against police brutality in the past opened fire on deputies last Wednesday, killing Carrigan and wounding two others.

The Park County Sheriff's Office says the deputy still in the hospital, Master Patrol Deputy Kolby Martin, has been moved out of intensive care.

The other officer hurt, Capt. Mark Hancock, is back at home and recently was visited by members of the Platte Canyon High School football team, which he helped coach with Carrigan.

Deputies killed Martin Wirth, the gunman, during the shootout.
