Memorial Scheduled For Slain Park County Sheriff's Deputy

ARVADA, Colo. (AP) - A memorial service has been scheduled for a sheriff's deputy who was shot and killed while trying to serve an eviction notice.

The service for Park County Sheriff's Cpl. Nate Carrigan will be held March 14 in Arvada.

A procession of law-enforcement vehicles will precede the service at Faith Bible Chapel.

Carrigan was killed and two other deputies were injured on Feb. 24 in Bailey, about 45 miles southwest of Denver. The man who shot them, 58-year-old Martin Wirth, was killed when deputies returned fire.

Carrigan and other officers were trying to serve an eviction notice to Wirth.

Carrigan was 35. He had a fiancee and four stepchildren.
