DENVER (CBS4) - There was a big transformation for the 16th Street Mall on Sunday as it was turned into a shared public space for people and families.

The event is called Meet in the Street. It allows people to take advantage of an alternative version of the mall.

Crews put down real grass in the middle of the street and there was live music and other fun activities.

"It's like an outdoor mall, is exactly what it is, you know a little more of an adult section here, so it's kind of nice," mall patron Byron Calvin said.

The purpose of Meet in the Street is to "experiment with alternative versions of the mall to observe how businesses and the public react to changes in activation, connectivity and transit" for the Future of Denver's 16th Street Mall study, according to a statement from the Downtown Denver Partnership.
