Mayor Suthers Visits Penrose Hospital To Personally Thank Staff

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - As investigators try to figure out why a man went on a deadly shooting spree at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Mayor John Suthers personally thanked some hospital staff.

On Saturday Suthers went to Penrose Hospital to meet the people who treated some of the wounded.

"Liz, I want to thank you for doing a great job with these guys," Suthers told a nurse.

"Thank you, I was just doing my job," Liz Dienst replied.

"They are so appreciative," Suthers said.

"It was a very busy hallway. I was constantly clearing the hallway. My trauma surgeons were actually down here in the emergency department through most of it," Dienst told CBS4. "They were fantastic, and honestly I had staff coming out of the woodwork to come in and help because we just didn't know what was going to unfold."

Robert Lewis Dear, 57, is being held in the El Paso County Jail without bail.
