While there have been lots of spouses welcoming home loved ones and first baby reunions, there was also a different declaration of love this weekend. A soldier proposed to his girlfriend at the homecoming ceremony.

When Sgt. Michael Higgins and his girlfriend Jinette Rich were called up during the ceremony at the Special Events Center, he got down on one knee and made the proposal, and of course she said "yes."

The proposal actually came on the Fourth of July. Organizers said a marriage proposal has never been done before at a Fort Carson homecoming.

Higgins is a member of the 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, which returned from Kuwait.

The soldiers arrived in waves over the weekend. They've been deployed in Kuwait and Afghanistan.

The last group arrived on Monday.
