Marine Accused Of Vandalizing 2 Durango Shops

DURANGO, Colo. (AP) — A Marine is accused of breaking windows at two businesses and setting about a dozen dogs free after a night of drinking in Durango.

The Durango Herald reports that Lance Cpl. Kenneth Walter Jones of Escondido, Calif. was arrested after police found him breaking things inside a used car shop early Saturday. Police say the 22-year-old also started a small fire there. He's also accused of opening cages at a kennel next door, allowing dogs boarded by their owners to escape.

All were eventually found.

Police spokesman Lt. Ray Shupe says Jones says he can't remember what happened. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.

Jones' fellow Marines told investigators that they are with the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 161 based in Miramar, Calif. which flies V-22 Osprey.
