Manitou Incline Visitors To Pay More To Park

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- People who hike up the Manitou Incline will pay more to park at the base of the Barr Trail to access the incline.

The Manitou Incline is a mile-long hike with an elevation gain of 2,000 feet in Manitou Springs west of Colorado Springs, but heavy foot traffic and rain have eroded the trail over the years.

Manitou Springs City Council members voted to double parking fees in an effort to reduce traffic. City leaders hope visitors will park in the free lot and use the free shuttle instead.

It will cost vehicles $20 per day and the rate increase was put into effect immediately. Nearby street parking will also double in cost.

About 2,000 hikers climb the incline on a typical summer weekend day.
