Mandatory Reporting Of Elder Abuse Taking Effect
DENVER (AP) — Gov. John Hickenlooper is speaking about a law taking effect July 1 that seeks to increase reporting of elder abuse.
The legislation that was passed last year classifies any person who is 70 or older as an "at-risk" elder, and requires certain health professionals and social workers to report suspected abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation.
Failure to report abuse will be a misdemeanor.
The governor will talk about the new law Friday afternoon.
Forty-seven other states have similar laws.
